One person is dead and others have been injured after a car and motorcycle collided in Christchurch.

The crash took place at the intersection of Colombo Street and Sandyford Street in Sydenham.

Emergency services are working at the scene and diversions are in place.

A police officer at the scene said at least one person had died.

More people are believed to be seriously injured.
